Today after breakfast you will receive a short introduction and briefing about your safari and stay in our beloved motherland. After the briefing, a tour of the Giraffe Manor to experience resident Rothschild’s giraffe who may visit morning and evening, sometimes poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary, check-in with lunch then proceed to Karen Blixen, represented in the Academy Award-winning film ‘Out of Africa’, followed by a visit to the David Sheldrick Elephants Sanctuary at 5.00p.m. for Private bottle feeding of the Baby Elephants for “Foster Parents”. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight at Giraffe Manor
Today after breakfast, you will depart for Samburu National Reserve by road with a stop at the equator line, home to the rare and exotic wildlife species such as the Gerenuk, Rothschild Giraffe, Gravy’s Zebra, endangered Samburu monkeys, Beisa Oryx and large elephant herds arriving in Samburu in time for check-in and Dinner. Samburu National Reserve is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River in dry northern Kenya. It is located in a hot and arid area characterized by a parched landscape of hills and plains. Today after breakfast you drive to Nanyuki to the Ol Pajeta Conservancy with game drive en-route. Ol Pejeta Conservancy lies in a 90,000-acre not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya’s Laikipia County arriving in good time for lunch with afternoon game viewing. It is situated on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The conservancy is home to a variety of animals including the “Big Five”. It is the largest sanctuary in East Africa for the endangered Black Rhino and is also a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. Dinner and overnight Sweet Water Serena Camp
After breakfast, you will have a mid-morning game drive with early lunch then you will be transferred to Isiolo Airport for your flight to Maasai Mara via Nairobi Wilson Airport departing at 2.00p.m. Our flight to Mara Reserves departs at 15.30p.m., home to the big five and numerous plains game. You will arrive in time for check-in and lunch before departing for afternoon game drives. Today after breakfast you will check out from the camp and take an extensive full day game drive into the reserve covered with rolling grasslands dotted with acacia and hazy forested hills and riverline bush where the Mara River and its tributaries meander, Maasai Mara is considered by many to be Kenya’s finest game reserve, the 1510 sq Kms of this reserve adjoin Tanzania’s well-known Serengeti, forming one eco-system. The open rolling savannah grassland of the Mara is the home of numerous wildlife species including elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena, jackal, buffalo, eland, topis, impala, gazelle, warthog and zebra. From June to October, the annual Wildebeest migration takes place when thousands of these animals sweep across the plain and seek out new grazing areas, a full day game drive with picnic lunch at the hippo pool on the banks of the Mara River where the crossing of the Gnus [wildebeests] takes place while the killer crocodiles awaits will be the best experience ever. On return, The Bush Dinner awaits you and will commence with the setting of the sun. Our guests will find that a table and chairs have already been set up and that a campfire, lanterns, and bush kitchen awaits them. Our staff carefully serve guests with freshly prepared gourmet food made by the executive chef using fresh local produce with international influences accompanied by fine wines. Today after breakfast you will drive to Rusinga Island arriving in good time for lunch followed by a visit to the Bird Islands, a 20 minute boat ride to bird Islands is rewarded with the remarkable sight of thousands of water birds roosting and resting on the rocky outcrops. Giant monitor Lizards and spotted necked otters are often seen on the rocky shores around the Island. Regal fish eagles soar overhead. Your boat Captain, who doubles up as the guide can throw fish for them, giving superb photographic opportunities as they seep down to grasp their prize. Guest will also have the chance to see and interact with the local fishermen along with the shoes in their colourful canoes. These are very friendly people. You are welcome to visit the fishing villages where the night’s catch is set out to dry in the sun while larger fish are smoked. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Rusinga Island Lodge
Today after breakfast you will have water sports activities, we have a wide selection of water sports equipment available to suit both the serious, enthusiast and the first-timer. Jet-Ski, Water-skis, Mono-skis, Kneeboard, Banana, Kayaks as well as the leisure Boat ride to the nearby white sandy beaches of Takawiri Island all make for a fun, invigorating morning out on the lake. The best time for these activities is between 07.00 to 10.00am when the lake is generally calm. Sometimes the activities can go on until around 13.00 hours before the water current starts becoming rough.
Return to Lodge for a hot meal followed by a visit to our Project (Return Back To The Community) of Widows and Orphans which we established in 2016 in Rusinga Island. We work with widows and orphans and for sustainability, the payments received from the clients for the day is donated to the women in terms of a soft loan at an interest rate of 2% per month. The main aim of the loans is to empower the women economically so that they can start small businesses to help them take their children to school and also be able to put food on the table. So far we have about 24 widows with total orphans of 120. Followed by a Beach Candle Light dinner and overnight at Rusinga Island Lodge
Today we shall have bush/beach breakfast at the Lakeside, followed by a Private Outdoor or Indoor Spa massage, hot lunch before transfer to Masai Mara for your flight to Serengeti. Proceed to Serengeti then the journey continues North West across the stunning hilly countryside of the highlands which is filled with wheat and coffee plantations, and then into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After breakfast you depart for Ngorongoro viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains, stopping off at Olduvai Gorge en route. The Gorge acquired its name from the Sansevieria bush that grows profusely in the area, named Olduvai by the Maasai. The Gorge is about 50km long and in some places around 90m deep and is found between the Crater and the Serengeti. It was first discovered by a German entomologist named Professor Kattwinkel, who instigated an expedition just before the First World War. Later, the exploration was continued by Dr Louis Leakey and his wife, who in 1959 found humanoid remains of Zinjanthropus, later renamed Australapithicus Boisei, an early form of man. You will have time to walk through the simple small museum at the gorge, where you can view copy displays of some of the finds as well as pictures of what life was like for the gorge’s earliest inhabitants. Today after breakfast very early in the morning, you will depart for Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain; Kilimanjaro, one of Kenya’s most popular national parks in good time for lunch with afternoon game drive. It lies 150 miles south-east of Nairobi, very close to the Tanzania border. The snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds dominates every aspect of Amboseli and the Observation Hill which allows an overall view of the whole park especially the swamps and elephants.
